Lenin El-Ramly (1945-2020) was a playwright, screenwriter, and director based in Egypt. Recognized for his contributions to satire, farce, parody, and the Theatre of the Absurd, El-Ramly's work is known both in Egypt and internationally for daringly critiquing hypocrite and intolerant behaviors within society.His projects include plays like "You Are Free," which was banned in the 1980s for its critical perspective on oppression, and his adaptation of Aristophanes’ "Lysistrata" set in Baghdad, titled "A Peace of Women." Throughout his career, his work received both national and international recognition, making significant contributions to Egyptian theater and society by challenging social conventions, hypocrisy, and bigotry.
